Analysts Predicting PlayStation 5 Video Games Online Release Date
The precise date is not yet known, although estimates are placing it somewhere around PlayStation 5 Video Games Online Release Date 2020. Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong predicts that Sony will reveal the date sometime later this year. He was correct when predicting when the PS4 Pro and Slim launched, so he may be right again this time.
Other industry executives are placing a potential release date anywhere from 2019 to 2021. Analyst Pachter, for example, spoke on The 1099 podcast in September of 2017. He explained that he believed it we be released in 2019 or 2020, but probably 2020. “Sony’s making so much money with the PS4 that I think they’ll continue to milk it as long as they can milk it. The PS4 Pro eventually becoming the default version of the PS4 for most gamers. “It just feels to me that they’re not going to launch the PS5 until sales momentum for the PS4 slows, and it just hasn’t.”
As with the PS4 Pro, experts believe that Sony will announce the release date during a special event.
Release date reveal will affect the other console makers
A 2018 announcement of the release date would disorient both Microsoft and Nintendo since the Switch and One X only was released last year. Indeed, Sony intends for the system to be able to compete with the Switch and Xbox One X.
Actually, Nintendo is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Earlier this week, they told their investors (admittedly only as an estimate) that they were planning for the Switch to last longer than the typical video-game console cycle, which is usually around five or six years.
And as for MIcrosoft, they are doing rather well with the newly released Xbox One X, which is the most powerful console on the market right now.
Fewer PS4s sold last year: a factor in the change of date?
Expert suggestions also indicate that the date might have been pushed forward in time. So that the console will be released earlier than expected. The reason for this is that several important people within the company. It has changed jobs, with their job changes being widespread news. CEO and President Kaz Hirai, and Andrew House, CEO of Sony Interactive, are only two examples.
Another possible factor is a decline in the sale of PlayStation hardware and recent times. Sales of the PS4 have gone down. They were 9.7 million consoles sold a year ago, and are now located around 9 million, as explained by Gamesindustry.biz in January. Tech website Ars Technica suggested the same thing, explaining in an op-ed that the PS4’s peak may be coming to an end. “With the end of 2017, the PS4 has reached the end of its fourth full year on the market. It seems set to begin its long decline in annual sales,” wrote journalist Kyle Orland.
News of the PlayStation 5 Video Games Online was announced by PS boss Shawn Layden in 2017, who said that it would not be released before “probably some time.”
PS4 Pro: New life for the PS4
Even so, the website was hopeful about the console’s future. The article explained that the PS4 Pro, which was launched in the latter half of 2016. It could bring new life to the system, and even potentially change the entire market. Gamers have certainly been reacting with excitement and anticipation with regards to PlayStation games and releases; that’s for sure. They were very excited when Monster Hunter: World was released late last month. This will be in a similar state of mind when God of War’s PS4 Pro edition is released.
Further, despite declining sales of the PS4 itself. Sony as a company has experienced a 50% increase in their operating profits, with the value going all the way up to 778 million. Contributing to this is the prevalence of big, upcoming titles: Death Stranding, the God of War re-release, and Spider-Man.
Along the same lines, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two. This will only improve for the PS4 from here on out. With regard to Sony’s new hardware, he said, “We have yet to see entirely what the technology can allow.” He said that “ I don’t think we remotely have seen what can be done, and that’s super exciting. And that speaks to many of our titles.”
Sony might even release a PS4 Pro Slim in the interim, analysts say.
All this being said, Sony seems to be relatively satisfied with its current position in the industry and market. It reportedly would like for the PS4 Pro. Along with the One X, to remain in the market for as long as possible.
