During the summer, iam8bit began selling a 30th anniversary edition of Street Fighter II, one of the greatest games of the 16-bit era, in its original cartridge form.
The limited edition run of 5,550 sold out almost instantly, despite the lofty $100 asking price.
However, thanks to an unboxing video posted on Wednesday (below), we can at least take an detailed look at the cartridge, which will work on any Super Nintendo console.

The release, which is in partnership with Capcom, was part of the Legacy Cartridge Collection and featured 4,500 units in “Ryu Headband Red”.
However, the translucent, glow in the dark edition in “Blanka Green” was the big prize. Only 1,000 were produced and it was pot luck as to which edition buyers received.
Here’s the cartridge in all its glory (via Neowin).
The cartridge itself has foil embossments, while a dust cover, an exceptionally enticing box and a special edition poster and instruction manual inside.
“Capcom x iam8bit are proud to unveil the “Street Fighter II” Legacy Cartridge Collection. We spared no detail in creating the most deluxe package possible, down to the dust cover,” the company wrote on YouTube.
As is often the case with these limited edition sales, it appears not all 5,500 cartridges got into the hands of fans.
Multiple copies are for sale on eBay, priced as high as $289. And those are just for the red edition. You could very nearly buy a Switch for that!
It’s a familiar story for Nintendo super fans who’ve struggled to get a NES/SNES Classic for face value. Thankfully, if you can snag a SNES Classic this festive season, Street Fighter II is one of the built-in games.
